Half Dome
Wally and I wanted to run up to Half Dome at Yosemite on Sunday. The ranger said the trails were closed due to ice but after seeing my AR50 jacket he said we would probably be OK. So Wally and I headed up from Curry village with a 6 hour curfew as we had dinner plans with our wives. There were some pretty hairy icy sections but after about 4 miles we were in enough snow that ice wasn't a problem. As we got higher the snow got deeper and we were "running" in 18 inches of snow for the last 11/2 or 2 miles before we turned around less than a mile from the top. It was quite an adventure. The icicles hanging from the cliffs were the stuff of postcards. The river at the top of Nevada Falls was running under the clear ice before it went over the falls. It was really beautiful. That was Sunday and my quads still hurt from the descent. We did get back in time to only be in a little trouble and have a spectacular dinner at the Ahwahnee. Wish you all could have been there.
TQ
